MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
My dearest Ladies of Paranaque Metro,
I read this poem by Max Soliven and would like to share this with you. It’s titled “Toiling” and speaks of perseverance and might as well have been titled so. As Rotarians, we continue to persevere in service, the basic tenet of Rotary. In spite of personal inconveniences and meager resources, our RCPM ladies continue to exhibit the very encouraging and worth emulating “CAN DO” attitude. Read on, my friends, and see yourself in the poem.
TOILING
Comes a time in the life of a fellow,
When he must be made to choose.
When he not fate finds the problem
Of whether to win or lose!
It’s then that he must show that he’s a man,
It’s easy to say the longer word “can’t”
And harder to say, “I can!”
But if he’s the stuff God has made him
And knows that life’s full of ruts,
And goes right through without flinching,
He’s a fellow that’s really got guts!
There aren’t any detours on the high road,
If you really want to go through;
The harder you toll at toll’s bumpy way,
The smoother it comes for you!
Oh, Fate’s just a wiley Old master,
And the world revolves day to day,
But still in the end, if you haven’t just tried
It’s you who’ll have to pay!
Life is a battle and you’ve got to win,
It’s a joust where there is a tie,
If you fall, get up, and try, try again,
Soaring once more to the sky!
And when the last peak is surmounted,
When the very last quarter is run,
When the wearied toiler, gasping, views
The set of his dimming sun,
Then the dark oblivion shall greet him,
But yet, because he had tried,
He’s given a help to the others behind,
To which many may point to with pride!
Enjoy the rest of the week!
Yours in Rotary, Brenda

We reflect on Paul Harris’ final message:
Rotarians frequently ask me, “When you founded Rotary, did you think it would come to anything like this?” No, I did not in 1905 foresee a worldwide movement of 6,000 clubs and 300,000 men. When a man plants an uncompromising sapling in the early springtime, can he be sure that someday here will grow a mighty tree? Does he not have to reckon on rain and sun – and the smile of Providence. Once he sees the first bud – ah, then he can begin to dream of shade.

ROTARY SPIRIT OF LIFE AWARD
Paul Harris on Rotary Spirit :
After having lived with Rotary during the twelve years of existence, I can, with fervor and sincerity, say that my faith in its destiny has constantly increased from the day of its birth.
Rotary is simple, genuine, true. Ir abhors deceit and pretentiousness, and had rather run the risk of under-rating than to run the risk of over-extolling its own virtues.
It is a man’s job to be a good Rotarian, and he who lives up to the precepts will be a good neighbor, a kind friend, a loving husband, a companionable father, and an asset to the community in which he lives.

Putting action to the sublime Rotary motto “Service Above Self” when RC Pque Metro packed the food bags, school supplies and used clothes and towels for distribution to about 60 families in Barangay San Antonio. This is the first phase of the distribution of the donations received from the Rotary Clubs of Brookfield and Ledyard. The Rotary Clubs of Metro South and Paranaque Midtown provided some logistics support.
